Propylene glycol is a chemical compound that is a colorless, odorless, and tasteless liquid. It is a viscous, hygroscopic substance that is miscible with water and many organic solvents. Color dyes are added to colorless glycol for the sole purpose to aid in leak detection.  The essential ingredient in glycol is the number of inhibitors added to protect the corrosion of metals in the system.  ig-loo propylene glycol heavy duty (PGHD) has several uses, including as a solvent, a humectant, and a heat transfer fluid. It is used to produce a wide variety of products, including personal care and hygiene products, food and beverages, and industrial products with ig-loo (PGFG).

Glycol absorbs and releases large amounts of heat without changing its temperature. This makes it ideal for use in refrigeration applications such as beverage chillers. Glycol is an important heat transfer fluid in industrial chiller applications.

Wineries

Glycol chiller is used in the fermentation process of wine making to control the temperature during fermentation. Glycol fluid temperatures vary based on the type of wine being made and the preferences of each wine maker, but most winery chillers will operate in the range of 35F to 50F degrees (for wine vessel temperatures of 45F to 60F degrees).

HVAC Cooling Systems

HVAC Cooling Systems can benefit from the addition of glycol because of how it interacts with water. The freezing point of water is 32 degrees Fahrenheit; however, by mixing glycol with water, its freezing point can be reduced to as low as -60 degrees Fahrenheit. This serves several uses, the most obvious of which is that it helps to prevent pipes from freezing in cold weather. The low temperatures achievable using glycol are also beneficial in cooling systems, which can remain highly chilled at a lower temperature than would be possible using water alone. This is why glycol cooling systems are becoming more common than ever before.

Close Loop Glycol Chillers

Glycol water chiller is a type of refrigeration system that cools a tub of glycol to reduce its temperature. The glycol is then pushed through a closed circuit of tubing or piping that is connected to the glycol chiller. This circulates cooled glycol and helps to reduce the glycol temperature of whatever is attached to the system.

Glycol chiller allows producers to lower the temperature of the product dramatically over a short period of time, depending on the production needs. For cooling in brewing, there are several processes in which it is important to lower or maintain the temperature – such as cooling the beer sharply after fermentation and maintaining a steady temperature during fermentation.

Hydronic Snow Melting Systems

Hydronic Snow Melting Systems utilize a mixture of hot water and propylene glycol (to prevent freezing) that is circulated by a series of pumps through a closed-loop of flexible polymer (PEX) tubing that is installed in the pavement (concrete, asphalt, or just about any medium). The liquid mixture is heated by a centrally located water heater (boiler) prior to being routed through the embedded PEX tubing to warm the driveway or sidewalks.
